Open Pottery Studio in Tokyo
If you are an artist looking for studio space then we can accommodate your needs.
We would recommend coming on weekdays as there will be more space available for you than at the weekends.
Unfortunately as we are extremely busy during the summer holidays we would not be able to offer this service in August.
Facilities
7 Shimpo pottery wheels (electric), 90 x 180 cm table for hand-building

Materials
- Clay: white clay, red clay, black clay, porcelain, half clay half porcelain, Bizen clay
- Glazes: 20 kinds of glazes (glossy and matte)
- Paints: 10 kinds of pigments
- Slip: white and black (not for slip casting)

Handy slab maker
Maximum size: 600×400×2.2 mm

Kilns
- Oxidation firing Amaco Excel kiln (electric), interior size of 65 x 65 x 65 cm
- Oxidation firing test kiln (electric), interior size of 23 x 23 x 20 cm

The default kiln conditions for the Excel kiln
Bisque firing: cone fire number 018 730℃
Glaze firing: cone fire number 7 1239℃
If you wish to use different conditions, it is possible to book the kiln for private use. This will cost 1000 JPY per hour for the Excel kiln and 350JPY per hour for the test kiln.
If you wish to use our studio then we require you to enroll in our Short Term Course and register as a member. This does not have to include lessons but means that an experienced teacher can be on hand to offer any assistance.

Class hours: 10am – 12pm / 1.30pm – 3.30 pm / 4pm – 6pm / 6pm – 8pm
You are welcome to stay longer than the class time, but there is an additional charge of \2200 per hour. We are closed from 12pm to 1pm for lunch.
Firing fee: The firing fee is your work’s size, Height x Width x Diameter x 1 = \… (approximately 800 JPY for a rice bowl)
We provide materials, tools and aprons at no charge but feel free to bring your own. If you want to bring your own glazes and clay then please check they are compatible with the temperature of our kiln.
As we are located in central Tokyo we do not have a huge amount of storage space. Therefore once your works have been completed we would need you to take them away as soon as possible.
We open everyday from 10am to 8pm. Each class runs for two hours and starts at either 10am, 1:30pm, 4pm, or 6pm.Please book and pay only the Registration Fee by credit card to confirm the reservation and pay the classes fee on the day at sch

There are three instructors who can teach in English.

Shipping
Shipping is available for overseas customers. We use the Japanese international EMS posting service.
Firing Fee
The firing fee is your work's size, Height × Width × Diameter(㎝) × 1 (about ¥1000 for a rice bowl)

Rescheduling Classes
Rescheduling classes is permitted if time slots are available. Please take the number of classes you have registered and paid for per month as we do not refund money paid for the classes that have not been taken.
What you have access to after joining as a member
We provide all materials (including tools, clay and aprons) so you do not need to bring anything to class. Feel free to bring your own tools and aprons but please take your belongings home after each lesson as we do not have locker facilities for you to store your belongings.
